Filipinos always have a way with sweets. Maybe thats why Filipinos always have a smile in their faces. So I made one of the many familiar Filipino delicacies the Turon or Sweet Banana Spring rolls. Just added a new twist which my three kids enjoyed.

Not only that Plantains are great for sweet snacks they are also have nutritional benefits. They are low in sodium and high in vitamin A, potassium, and fiber. It has a rare combination of energy value, tissue-building elements, protein, vitamins and minerals. It is a good source of calories since it is rich in solids and low in water content as compared to any other fresh fruit.

What you need:

Banana Saba (plantains) slice in half lengthwise (depend on how many you want)
5 tbsp brown sugar
1 spring roll (lumpia) wrapper for every half of banana saba
1/4 block of quick melt cheese cut in small cubes or cheese spread
2 cups cooking oil
1 cup of water

How to make it:

Separate the spring roll wrapper. Wet the banana in the water then roll it in the brown sugar. Then place one slice of banana in a wrapper. If your using cheese cubes place the cheese under the banana else spread the cheese spread into the banana. Wrap the banana neatly. Sprinkle with brown sugar to have a caramel coating when cooked.

Heat the cooking oil in a pan. Over medium-high heat, deep fry the banana spring rolls until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot to enjoy the melted cheese or chilled for kids to enjoy.

Hope you like it.
