Today, me and my youngest child (Renz Dexter) went to the wet market for our meal. Still not decided what to cook. When we came and got out of the tricycle and start walking, and saw the chicken vendor. First, I was thinking of cooking fried chicken but remember that Renz like dishes with soup. So I decided to cook Chicken Tinola. So I bought the ingredients.

Note: According to Wikipedia,  Tinola or Tinolang Manok (Chicken Ginger Stew) is one of the tru Filipino cuisine with soup and chicken meat, vegetable and fruit (if cooked with papaya)  in one meal.

What you need:

3 pcs. chicken thigh, cut into pieces.
1 sayote, peeled and cut into small pieces.
2 tablespoons ginger, crushed and sliced into strips.
dahon ng sili (chili leaves) according to your preference.
1 liter of water or rice water.
5 garlic cloves, crushed and minced.
1 red onion, diced.
4 tablespoons patis (fish sauce) to taste
1 Knorr Chicken broth cube dissolve in ½ cup water

How to make it:

  1. Use a stock pot (to accommodate the tinola soup), heat oil when hot sauté garlic, onion and ginger.
  2. Add water (or rice water) and then the chicken and dissolve broth cube.
  3. Simmer until chicken is tender.
  4. Season with patis depending on your taste and add the sayote.
  5. Simmer for 5 minutes or until sayote softens but not overcooked then turn the heat off.
  6. Add sili leaves then cover the pot.
  7. Serve steaming hot on a bowl with plain rice on the side.

Enjoy, because me and my youngest kid Renz really enjoyed it.

One Response so far.
