Cooking is an Art.

Creating art may not require all the material but only the essentials, and a good kitchen always have the essentials to create a great dish.

compliment to norecipes for the photo

8″ Chef’s knife (kutsilyo)

This is what I call the all-around utility knife. I can chop, shred, cut, mince, slice and fillet if you really are good with it. I recommend to but not shorter than 8 inches but not longer then 10 inches. With a sturdy handle and you have a nice grip to it. When I look at a good knife is to verify that the steel is continuous from the tip to the end of the handle. Imitation are only end in the handle which are only inserted. Which be loosed after a couple of months.

If you have the money to go for the whole set then go for it. But the essential is the 8″ Knife that can be used for all your cutting needs.

compliment to HSN for the photo

Casserole (kasirola)

Or a pot to many, is used for boiling or simmering dishes. Basically this will be the all-around pan you could use when cooking soup, sauces, or cooking stew. A good casserole will be able to handle 3-12 liters of water or about 7-9 inches in diameter (opening).

For me I will go for the stainless or metallic looking, but that’s just me. As long as you can cook your meal on it then we have no issue with it.

Ladle (sandok)

A ladle is another must have utility in the kitchen that will serve you many purpose. Mainly it is used to stir and serve soup or stew. It can also be used as a slotted turner ( the one used for frying) if you have no choice. A good ladle should be at least 1 ft long with a strong handle and a good bowl at the end.

Remember that cooking is not due to the equipment but due to the heart of the cook making the dish.

Last night Feb29, 2012 Max’s Restaurant (my families favorite restaurant), has given us their newest offering this coming Lent season.

Max’s Sizzling Seafood in Honey Bagoong Sauce

is a harmony of breaded cream dory, shrimps and squid rings that are deep-fried until light, golden brown, sprinkled with julienned red bell peppers and chopped spring onions, and splashed with a special sauce that brings together sweet honey and piquant bagoong. Served in a sizzling hot plate, this sensational dish is a guaranteed must-try for seafood aficionados. I just Love it.

Max’s Adobong Kangkong Stuffed Tofu

is an inventive and mouthwatering twist to the quintessential adobo. Fresh kangkong leaves, shiitake and button mushrooms drizzled in sweet adobo sauce stuffed in deep-fried tofu blocks. The harmony of greens and earthy colors lend a refreshing vibe that appeals to both vegetable and non-vegetable eaters. What could I say I love food server is a hot metal plate with the sizzling sound and the smoking aroma in the air.

Max’s Cauliflower Puffs

is the perfect dish for very picky young diners and self-confessed meat-lovers. Crisp cauliflowers are dipped in a special batter, deep-fried and tossed in a special sauce. Fun and vibrant colors of finely sliced carrots and spring onions also brighten up the plate. Every crunchy bite of

I just discovered a new dining spot just around the corner from my work place at the BGC.

It’s RELIK Tapas Bar and Lounge.

Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge is really not an easy find. It’s the kind of place you either stumble upon with luck or track down with a GPS navigation device. But it’s this low-key approach, from facade to food, that makes Relik such a worthwhile discovery.

Relik’s has a homey rustic ambiance and cozy interiors that makes it a great hang out to spend time with friends and family. The restaurant’s “modern vintage” theme is apparent in the mix of urban and retro designs. The walls a covered with vintage items like framed images from the 50s and 60s, wooden tennis rackets, a vinyl records and . Relik also has a private non-smoking room that’s perfect for executive lunches or meetings. This room can be rented out for events and parties.

Inside, diners are led to plush leather sofas under warmly lit lamps. Vintage touches like an old radio, typewriter and refurbished turntable-turned DJ booth add sentimental charm, making first-time customers feel instantly at home. In fact, almost everything about the place is comforting, especially the food.

For lunch hunter like me specially on a Friday or Payday. Relik is a good place to relax and not think of work for a moment and only concentrate your mind on the food. They offer a hearty lunch sets that are easy on the pocket are available. Each set includes soup, salad and one main course. A typical lunch set would consist of Roasted Pumpkin soup with Crème Fraiche, Caesar Salad and Lengua. Other days, one can expect some French Onion Soup with Manchego Crouton, a Garden Salad and for the main course, Chicken Parmigiana with Sweet Potato Fries. The set lunches vary regularly so there’s always something new and exciting to try out during the week. Various desserts like the Vanilla and Amaretto Panacotta with berry compote or homemade cakes are also available for the sweet-toothed.

“Modern tapas” is the term that Australian-trained Chef Benjo Tuason uses to describe Relik’s signature dishes. “We’re not strictly Spanish cuisine. It’s really honest and good food, cooked with a lot of love,” he says. “I believe that the produce should speak for itself. I like simple, clean flavors cooked with passion. It’s very important to respect the products you use and to cook with a lot of care because it will reflect on the dish.” Among those he recommends trying would be the Baked Brie with Honey Glazed Jamon Serrano and Tomato Salsa, the Chorizo and Fries (thick potato wedges mixed with Spanish chorizos and topped off with a fried egg), the Potato Bomba (ham and cheese croquettes with aioli), the Davao Blue Cheese with Spicy Paprika Sausage Tortilla and of course, their signature tapas that include the Spicy Gambas, Beef Salpicao and Lamb Meatballs. Apart from the tapas, he also suggests trying the main dishes. Two of those that should not be missed would be the 350 gram USDA Certified Angus Beef steak and the Relik Paella, which needs to be ordered a day in advance.

Relik is located on the 2nd floor of Commercenter Building, 31st Ave. corner 4th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. They are open for lunch from Monday to Friday, 11:30 pm to 2:30 pm, then for dinner and cocktails from Monday to Sunday, 5:30 pm onwards. Now the citizens of Taytay and its neighboring towns will enjoys the delectable and succulent meals the Famous restaurant are known for had opened its 46th branch at the Ground Floor Building A of SM City Taytay.

So when my wife and I were to meet her college friends for dinner I suggested to go for the Classic Savory.

The place has a great ambiance that will attract even non-patron of the establishment. They sure are very accommodating when we were still waiting to be seated.

From the outside you can see that even the manager is assisting the customer which other establishment are not fond of doing.

The place is clean and has a very tangy smell that I like. The personnel immediately asked us our order which we gave for we have time to look to their menu when we were waiting.
